Registering with the Practice
Registration forms are available from reception. Patients register with the Practice but are also allocated a Doctor. Both new patients and existing patients can select their own allocated doctor either by informing the doctor when they see them or by asking at reception. New patients will automatically be allocated to the current accepting doctor for that quarter, as indicated on the registration form. For continuity of care we would recommend seeing your allocated doctor especially where it is for an on-going problem, however if your allocated doctor is not available you are free to see any doctor of your choice.
The Practice operates from two sites. Both the Main Surgery and the Kemsing Branch Surgery have suitable access for disabled patients and there is a disabled toilet at both sites.
For patients with hearing problems, we have Hearing Loops available at the Otford Surgery and Kemsing Village Surgery.
Compliments or Complaints
We are committed to providing good medical care to our patients and welcome any compliments, comments, concerns or complaints about our service. We would encourage patients to put these in writing and address them to Wendy Anag, the Practice Manager or to the relevant Doctor if you deem that more appropriate. For more information please ask for a copy of our leaflet ” Listening, Responding, Improving ” which is available at Reception or in our waiting area.
We have a Practice Based Complaints Procedure, copies of which are available on request.
Patient Participation Group
Would you like to have a say about the services provided at the Otford Medical Practice. Our Patient Participation Group would like to hear your views. By leaving your email details we can contact you every now and again to ask you to take part in a survey and answer a question or two. Contact forms are available from reception and on the back of the leaflets that are available in the waiting area.
Violence or Abuse
We are committed to protecting the staff and doctors against violence and abuse. We are here to help you and would ask patients to be courteous in their dealings with the members of this practice. We do not feel that it is acceptable for patients to use rude or abusive language or threatening behaviour. All staff are advised to report any such incident and the matter will then be addressed with the patient concerned. In extreme situations this may result in the patient being removed from our list.
Access to Patient Information
We respect your right to privacy and keep all your health information confidential and secure.
All our staff are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the Doctors and Nurses.
The Practice is fully computerised and therefore registered under the Data Protection Act 1998.
It is important that the NHS keeps accurate and up-to-date records about your health and treatment so that those treating you can give you the best possible care. This information may be used for management and audit purposes. However it is usually only available to, and used by, those involved in your care.
We will always obtain consent from the patient before releasing any medical information, and in most cases consent will be obtained in writing.
You have the right to know what information we hold about you. If you would like to see your records, please address your request in writing to the Practice Manager.
Allocated Named Doctor
All Patients are now allocated a named Doctor. If you attend the surgery regularly you should already be aware who your allocated Doctor is. However if you are unsure who your allocated doctor is then please do not hesitate to ask the receptionist and she will be happy to inform you. Having an allocated doctor does not prevent you from seeing any other doctor in the Practice if you wish to do so. If you wish to change your allocated doctor then please ask either the receptionist to make this change or the doctor when you see them.
